GreatArt 25th Birthday Competition Winner

I’m thrilled that Driving Home has been named the winner of GreatArt UK’s 25th Birthday Competition.

The competition was launched to celebrate 25 years of GreatArt in the UK, with 20 shortlisted artworks going forward to a public vote. After an incredible response and support from so many people, Driving Home received the winning vote.

This painting has had quite a journey. Inspired by the illuminated Texaco garage beside the Gannel in Newquay, I originally painted it as an experiment in finding beauty in a familiar, everyday place after dark. It went on to win the People’s Choice Award at the British Art Prize in 2024 and became an important turning point in the development of my ongoing series, The Colour of Night.

Two years later, it’s wonderful to see the painting connecting with people all over again.

As the winner, I received a £500 GreatArt voucher, which will be going straight back into new canvases, paint and future work.

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to vote and share the competition, and to GreatArt for choosing Driving Home as one of the finalists and for creating such a lovely way to celebrate their 25th anniversary.
