Stories
Every painting has a story
Some begin with a fleeting moment of light, others continue through exhibitions, collectors and unexpected connections. Explore the stories behind each painting and discover how 'The Colour of Night' has grown, one shared experience at a time.
Newquay After Dark
A Portrait of Newquay After Dark is an ongoing series exploring the familiar places that come to life after sunset. From cafés, pubs and amusement arcades to beaches, car parks and supermarkets, these paintings celebrate the everyday locations that shape life in the town. Together they form a portrait of Newquay after dark, revealing the quiet rituals, shared experiences and moments of light that often pass unnoticed.
Beyond the Canvas
Newquay After Dark continues beyond the paintings themselves.
In 2026, The Island After Dark was created for Newquay BID's Door Mural Trail, transforming an ordinary service gate on Bank Street into a permanent piece of public art. Inspired by the same colours, light and atmosphere that run throughout the series, the mural went on to win the trail's public vote.
It can now be discovered in the heart of Newquay, one small part of Newquay After Dark that has become part of the town itself.
