Rosa

Inspired by Rosa in Newquay, this painting explores how a simple canopy of fairy lights can transform an ordinary evening into somewhere people want to linger. Warm light spills across the frontage, creating a welcoming glow that quietly stands apart from the surrounding street.

I first noticed Rosa from a distance. It wasn't the restaurant itself that caught my attention, but the warm canopy of lights glowing against the evening sky. Set beside the mini golf course rather than surrounded by neighbouring buildings, the light seemed to have room to breathe.

This painting is about the feeling of arriving somewhere that gently encourages you to slow down. A place where dinner becomes conversation, one game becomes another and an evening quietly stretches a little longer than you expected.

What began with individual paintings gradually became a set. Herd, Rosa and Ralph's are connected through the same owner, but each represents a different kind of social space and has developed its own visual character.
