Night Bus

Night Bus explores one of the quiet rituals of everyday life after dark: the journey home. Set beneath the artificial glow of a bus station, the painting celebrates the familiar moments of waiting, watching and wondering whether it's time to leave. It's less about public transport than the shared experiences that unfold around it.
No one wants to miss the last bus.
Even when there's plenty of time, something instinctive happens. We quicken our pace, check the destination one more time and wonder, Is that mine?
This painting captures one of those familiar moments at the end of the day. A bus waits beneath artificial light, headlights glowing against the darkness. It's an everyday scene that most of us have experienced, yet one that passes almost unnoticed until the light catches it.
Night Bus was longlisted for the Visual Art Open 2025, organised in partnership with the Visual Arts Association, recognising the painting's exploration of everyday life after dark.
