It's a Small World

Inspired by the Gaia installation at Truro Cathedral, this painting explores an unexpected meeting between contemporary art and historic architecture. Suspended beneath the cathedral's soaring arches, the illuminated Earth becomes both the focal point and a striking contrast against the blue-lit stonework surrounding it.
I visited Truro Cathedral specifically to see the Gaia installation, curious to discover how such an enormous sculpture would feel within the historic building. What surprised me wasn't just the scale of Gaia itself, but the way the cathedral had been transformed by light. The blue-lit arches simplified the architecture, allowing the globe to sit comfortably within the vast space while creating a composition built on circles, arches and strong geometric lines. Some of the most memorable experiences happen when familiar places are transformed in unexpected ways.
