The telescope doesn't tell us what to see. It reminds us to keep looking.
Looking Up isn't intended to show a scientifically accurate view of the universe. Instead, it explores the feeling of standing beneath a dark sky and imagining what lies beyond the limits of our own eyes.
Inspired by the distinctive red-lit telescope used at Nova Stargazing, whose photographs first sparked the idea for this painting.
Whether you've spent evenings searching for constellations, watched a meteor shower, or simply found yourself gazing at the stars on a clear night, I hope this painting captures a little of that shared sense of curiosity and wonder.
A Hidden Layer
The painting also contains a subtle fluorescent detail. Invisible under normal lighting, the stars respond to ultraviolet light, creating an additional layer inspired by the way astronomy reveals details that often remain hidden from the naked eye.
