A bright pink octopus stands out within the harbour lights, its form cutting through the darkness and reflecting across the water. The surrounding display continues around it, but this single feature holds attention.
The painting captures a tradition people return to year after year, where a familiar place is seen differently, held briefly in light before returning to its quieter state.
A Hidden Layer
The painting also contains a subtle fluorescent detail. Invisible under normal lighting, the stars respond to ultraviolet light, creating an additional layer inspired by the way astronomy reveals details that often remain hidden from the naked eye.
